Home Alarm Monitoring - Why You Should Consider It

Almost every homeowner who does not have one can benefit from home alarm monitoring. To back up that statement, let me share with you some crime statistics and facts.

No one will deny that there is a lot of crime going on in the United States. However, three out of four crimes committed in the United States are property crimes. Since 2004, burglary offenses have gone up. In fact within the last 10 years burglaries are up 2%. The problem is not going away -- it is getting worse.

Why else should you consider a home alarm system? Well, remember how I told you that three out of four crimes committed are property crimes. Out of all those property crimes, 21.2% of them are burglaries. On average, when a burglar breaks into your home they leave with $1725 worth of merchandise. However, there have been many cases where they have left with much more.

So who do the burglars target? You might think that they target commercial buildings and retail businesses, but the truth tells a different story. The fact is 65.8% of all burglaries that took place in 2005 were to residential homes. Now here's something else to go along with that which should give you a little extra motivation in considering an alarm system. Out of all the residential burglaries that took place, over half of them (62.4% to be precise) occurred between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.

This means that in most cases nobody in your family will be home to stop the burglar from entering into the home. A burglary in the United States alone happens once every 14.6 seconds, which means if it took you five minutes to read this article that 20 homes have been broken into during that time.

If none of these facts have at least compelled you to consider a home alarm monitoring system, then I can only assume you are a risk taker or you simply do not have anything valuable to protect in your home.

Even more important than having a home security system is turning it on. In 2005, the statistics found that 41% of homes with alarm systems that were burglarized did not even have the security system activated.

The bottom line is that burglaries are not going to quit happening anytime soon. Since the chance of being burglarized decreases by 75% when you have a home alarm monitoring system installed it makes sense to have one installed in your home.
