Home Burglar Alarms - How They Prevent Criminal Behavior
You can make an argument that living in today's world is more dangerous than ever. More houses are being broken
into on a daily basis and the safety of more families is being compromised. One way to stop intruders dead in their
tracks is to use home burglar alarms.
The whole purpose of a home burglar alarm is to monitor entry into your home. Whenever there is unauthorized
entry it will send a notification to a monitoring station. There are many different monitoring stations spread
across the nation that operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Their goal is to notify the proper local
authorities if the security in your home is compromised.
Most home burglar alarms will have devices for motion detection, room temperature changes, and even send out
alerts to the neighbors when there is a disturbance.
Let me show you how this home security system works. Oftentimes there will be magnetic devices that are placed
throughout the house. They will be put not only the door jams, but also on the windows. These will go off if the
windows and doors are opened without authorization. To get the proper authorization you need to disarm the system.
That requires knowing the security code and entering it into the security keypad.
Also, motion detectors are used in conjunction with the alarm system. They are placed in both obvious and no
obvious places. Not only are they attach to the walls, windows and doors, but they're also put in places like air
ducts to sense whether an intrusion is likely even if a break in hasn't occurred yet.
Some burglar alarms even have glass breakage sensors. In this case, the system will send an alert when glass is
shattered. It knows that glass has been shattered because it will convert the shock waves generated from the
breaking of the glass into electric signals.
But what's to prevent somebody from cutting the power to your home before breaking in? Wouldn't the system
shutdown when there is no power? No. This is because burglar alarm systems have backup power so even if your power
or phone lines are disarmed your alarm will still be working.
This is beneficial because most home burglar alarm systems have two-way monitoring devices, so you can
communicate with the monitoring station even if your phone lines are cut. These are just a few reasons why these
security systems make good sense to have in your home. They will not only keep your family safe, but give you peace
of mind as well.
